Aslam Kamal was a pioneering Pakistani painter, designer and one of the leading innovators of modern calligraphic painting. Born in Sialkot and later based in Lahore, he was initially trained as a commercial artist. He began his career designing book jackets and quickly became one of the most sought-after dust-jacket designers in Urdu publishing.
