Biography

Anna Molka Ahmad was widely regarded as the founder of formal art education in Pakistan. Born in London to a Polish mother and a Russian father, she defied her parents' wishes by pursuing art, earning a London County Council scholarship to St Martin's School of Art and later a senior scholarship to the Royal College of Art. In 1939, Ahmad married the artist Sheikh Ahmad and moved to Amritsar before settling in Lahore. In 1940, she established the first Department of Fine Arts in what is now Pakistan at the University of the Punjab, initially for women undergraduates. She was also among the founders of Lady Maclagan Training College in 1944....
